Beyond Rescue
Our mission is to prevent women and girls from falling back into the scourge of slavery and exploitation by providing continuity of employment with a living wage. A job is more than just a source of income; it is transformational and empowering, giving women increased self-esteem, pride and more economic independence. Statistically, if women don’t have these opportunities and if the economic solution isn't in place, women can go through the process of rescue and rehabilitation, but a large percentage of them still end up back where they were found or worse.
Once women have been rescued, SEWA Shram Shakti Foundation works with different nongovernmental organisations (NGO’s) that specialise in identification, rescue and rehabilitation programs. Rehabilitation includes mental and physical health assessments and the required treatment and counselling inorder to begin their new life.
This is where Women Fibre To Fashion (WFTF) steps in - identifying potential women who would like to do a traineeship in tailoring or pattern making and providing them with not only on the job training in a safe working environment but also education on collective bargaining, their rights as an employee and financial literacy. This means that within a short space of time, women are skilled enough to do different levels of work and can start to choose which direction they want to work towards and have continued and gainful employment.
